Rationale for Choosing Pedagogy
Since childhood, I have always been intrigued by children interacting with others and with their environment. To this day, I could simply sit and watch children explore and interact with their surroundings. In watching children, I always think to myself "how is he/she able to do this?". This is where my interest in pedagogy peaked. I wanted to focus on learning about how children learnt because it would give me a better understanding of their actions. In addition, learning about theories in pedagogy would enable me to become a better teacher as I will be able to make my lessons more meaningful to each child by focusing on their individual learning styles and needs. Through courses such as Educational Technology and Communication, Principles of Learning, and Learning with Technology, I was able to learn about new theories of education and communication as well as deepen my understanding of theories that I previously came across.
What is Pedagogy?
Pedagogy is the art and science of how something is taught and how students learn it. Pedagogy includes how the teaching occurs, the approach to teaching and learning, the way the content is delivered and what the students learn as a result of the process. In some cases pedagogy is applied to children and andragogy to adults; but pedagogy is commonly used in reference to any aspect of teaching and learning in any classroom.
