This website is an online portfolio of my learning throughout the Masters of Education (M.Ed.) program at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). Since childhood, I have always enjoyed working with children. This passion of mine, led me to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education which steered me towards pursuing a Bachelor of Education with a focus on the primary/junior division. While completing my B.Ed., I came across the M.Ed. program at UOIT. The description of the program intrigued me as the focus was technology (something I have also enjoyed since a child because of my father who is an electronics engineer) as well as the online component. I had never taken an online course, let alone a whole graduate online program. I was excited yet nervous at the same time. Thankfully, after applying and being accepted to the program, I started the program in September 2011, a little over a year ago. The first few weeks of the program were hectic. I was on the verge of tears and thought about dropping the program as I did not understand how to use and did not like the Adobe Connect (the software we used to have our online classes) interface, the online class idea was nerve-wracking because I was used to learning through the traditional way which is being taught the course material through lectures. In addition, I had taken four courses in one semester while working full-time. It was a frustrating and stressful semester for me. Eventually, after getting used to the online classes and online environment, I ended up loving the program. A little over a year later, I am almost done my degree and have created this portfolio to showcase my learning.
Throughout my online portfolio, I explore three major themes that have greatly impacted my learning throughout the program. They are Pedagogy, Technology and Reflection. Coming into the M.Ed. program, pedagogy and technology were always an area of interest for me. Reflection on the other hand is something that I was able to discover throughout the various classes I have taken. By navigating through the menu at the top as well as the topics under each drop down menu, these three topics will be explored further throughout my portfolio with artifacts to support my growth as a learner and an educator.
Below is a concept map of the major themes and ideas that will be showcased in my portfolio.
